The Eve of Tisha B’Av in 2012
What’s The Eve of Tisha B’Av?
Apologies for going away for a bit. Life is busy 🙂 Also, I have been doing my own work quietly. Unlike the marxist anti-racist organizations, we don’t tell the WNs what we do or what we know. You won’t see us coming.
In addition to today being my birthday on the Hebrew calendar, it is also the eve of Tisha B’Av. Tisha B’Av, or the 9th of the Hebrew month Av, is a day of mourning for the Jewish people. It is the anniversary of the destruction of the first and second Temples in Jerusalem (you know, the CAPITAL of Israel ahem). The destruction of the Temples happened 655 years apart on the SAME DATE. Additionally, Tisha B’Av is the anniversary of other tragic events for Jews:
- Beginning of the mass deportations out of Warsaw ghetto to Treblinka
- Beginning of WWI
- The date the Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492
- And much more
Since the world seems again to be turning against the Jewish people, the 9th of Av feels a bit ominous this year. Yes, it is a sad day. However, it is also the day that we believe that the Messiach (Messiah) will appear.
May Messiach appear soon. Shabbat Shalom!
